March 20, 2020: Oil Condition Monitoring COVID-19 Update
Impact of the State of CA / LA County and Illinois - Safer at Home Orders
March 20, 2020 - The governors of California and Illinois have issued “Safer at Home” and “Shelter in Place” orders, respectively, in response to COVID-19. These orders instructed people to stay at home and the closure of all “non-essential” businesses. After receiving additional clarification from state and local agencies and assessing the impact to our local employees and their families, we have determined that it is right and safe to continue to operate the laboratory in Hawthorne, CA and Chicago, IL on our normal operating schedule (Mondays through Fridays, 8am – 5pm).
The health and safety of our employees and clients continues to be our number one priority. We our monitoring the situation in California and at our other labs daily, and in the event that the situation changes, we are prepared to institute our pandemic contingency plan which would include the following;
- Overnight forwarding of all samples received at the impacted lab to one of our six (6) N. American laboratories for testing.
- Communication to all impacted clients advising them to begin sending samples to one of the other labs, and providing pre-addressed shipping mailers.
- Steps to ensure that we have adequate inventory of sampling supplies and products, so that we can continue to quickly fulfill all orders received.
We appreciate your understanding while we all continue to work through this fluid situation. Health and safety remain our number one priority as we continue to operate and support our clients. Be Safe!

March 16, 2020: Oil Condition Monitoring COVID-19 Update
Oil Condition Monitoring Remains Fully Operational
March 16, 2020 - Bureau Veritas North America and our Oil Condition Monitoring Laboratories are committed to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for our employees. As such, we are closely monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak according to the guidelines and recommendations of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). We want to share with you the actions we are taking to help protect our employees and customers.
At this point, all our N. American laboratories are maintaining our regular operating schedule; Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm (local). We are still receiving routine sample deliveries from USPS, UPS and FedEx, and have implemented a drop-box for local sample deliveries.
We’ve advised our employees to follow the public health authorities' guidance regarding hygiene and social distancing, and we’ve reinforced existing Bureau Veritas policy encouraging employees who exhibit flu-like symptoms to stay home and consult with a medical professional. At this time we’ve limited business travel and encouraged employees to leverage technology to hold business meetings and work remotely when possible.
As part of our business continuity strategy, Bureau Veritas has the ability to leverage the use of its sophisticated network of laboratories and service centers across North America. This includes where necessary, relocation of tests, reallocation of resources including personnel and equipment, adjustments to hours of operations, and working with suppliers and business partners to maintain service continuation. In addition, ensuring that we are in compliance with regulatory guidelines and procedures; cooperating with applicable agencies and authorities.
Redundancies have been built for core tests across the network should testing need to be conducted at another lab. This is to ensure that results will be delivered on time and to the same high level of quality that clients expect, regardless of location. In the event that there is a need for testing at a third party laboratory, the customer will be notified of such activity. Bureau Veritas prioritizes the selection of a sub-contractor’s laboratory based on accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025, experience, capacity and turn-around-time in order to meet client reporting requirements.
As the situation is fluid, we will continue to adapt to the circumstances to ensure our employee’s safety and continued operations. Up to date information can be found on our website at https://oil-testing.com/kr or you can contact us at +1-800-655-4473.
