Trends in Test Results Identify Pending Failure: A Case Study in Trend Analysis
The following case study illustrates how maintenance personnel at a nuclear power station identified serious bearing surface wear in a critical emergency diesel generator engine. Through oil condition monitoring (OCM) and trend analysis, they were able to pinpoint the root cause of the wear and correct the problem before the generator failed.
Every nuclear power plant has emergency power supplies, which are often diesel-driven. These generators provide power, only when needed, to special safety electrical distribution panels.
